Welcome to YMCA Cornwall

YMCA is the largest and the oldest group of independent charities working with young people in the world. Across England there are 114 independent YMCAs.
Each one is a thriving and active community and an autonomous charity that is transforming lives
.

YMCA Cornwall focus’s on young people and help them play an active and fulfilling role within their communities. We call this a youth minded community approach.

We provide a wide array of community based activities and housing services to help meet local needs wherever we are based.

What we do

DIRECTORS/TRUSTEES WANTED

YMCA Cornwall are looking for Directors/Trustees to sit on its Board. We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individuals with expertise and experience in one of the following areas: Housing, Finance and Human Resources.   The charity is at an exciting stage of its development, and is commencing an ambitious and challenging new business plan.

The present Board includes retired and working-age people with a range of work and life experiences.  Some have prior knowledge of trusteeship whilst for others; YMCA Cornwall is their first experience of a governance role.  We can provide training.

Board meetings are held four times per year at our Penzance offices and there are opportunities on our sub-committees.

The YMCA has had a presence in in Cornwall for many years. Our work currently focuses on providing support for young adults aged 18 to 30, offering them accommodation where they can feel safe.

Please note: The role of the Board is clearly to govern, not to manage or work directly with our resident clients.

We carry out DBS checks on everyone at YMCA Cornwall, including Trustees.  Applicants must also be over the age of 18.

These are a voluntary, unpaid, positions but reasonable travel expenses will be paid.

If you have experience in any of the above areas and are interested in making a difference to young people in West Cornwall, please contact the CEO, David Hall-Davies, for a chat by telephoning 01736 334820.
